What is an Agua Fresca?
Aguas frescas are drinks made of blended fruit or other aromatics with water and a sweetener.
An agua fresca is not sweet in itself, but the sweetener balances the other flavors.
They are popular in Mexico, Latin America, Central America, and the southwest United States. It is very common to find aguas frescas at street vendors in Mexico. And I have learned that street vendor food is the BEST food.

Ingredients
Here are the simple ingredients you need to make a cucumber agua fresca!
Cucumber – any fresh cucumbers is perfect here. I used English cucumbers because that is what I had, but you can also use Kirby cucumbers or classic “normal” cucumbers. They will all work great! No need to peel them.
Lime Juice – fresh lime juice is best!
Water
Agave – or sweetener of choice, such as honey or maple syrup. If you use granulated sugar, start with 2 tablespoons. I find that granulated sugar does not incorporate as well as the other options. The amount of sugar or sweetener will vary based on your preference, but start on the low end.
Instruction Overview
Wondering how to make cucumber lime agua fresca? It is incredibly easy!
All you need to do is add all of your ingredients to a blender, and blend!
High speed is best for at least 60 seconds to really make sure everything is blended well.
Pour it through a fine mesh strainer (fine mesh sieve) to remove the remaining fruit pulp. You can do this into a large pitcher if serving soon or into a large jar or container that will work for your refrigerator.
If desired, add more sweetener.
Keep chilled and serve over ice!
The Olive Twist
While this is an amazing non-alcoholic drink, it also makes a great cocktail! Simply add some vodka, gin, rum, or tequila.
Garnish this agua fresca recipe with cucumber slices, lime slice, or even some mint leaves.
Adjust the sweetness to your preference. I found that adding more sweetener also made the viscosity of the cucumber lime agua fresca thicker. I prefer a thinner texture, and less sugar, so test out what works for you!
If you are a fan of sweet, you can use a simple syrup. Amp up the flavor with flavored options like our Mint Simple Syrup or Jalapeno Simple Syrup if you want a kick!
