This Frozen Firecracker Margarita is a perfect red, white, and blue celebration in a glass! Perfect for a patriotic holiday like 4th of July, Memorial Day, and Labor Day.
Why You Will Love This Cocktail
I love serving up fun and festive food and drinks, especially for holidays like July 4th.
This Frozen Firecracker Margarita is full of red, white, and blue and a perfect way to celebrate an American holiday.
A simple and easy frozen blue margarita is garnished with white stars made out of fruit and a red rim with a surprise – pop rocks! A popping way to pay tribute to fireworks and firecrackers.
These drinks are perfect for a festive party served alongside things like a Red, White, and Blue Fruit Salad or American Flag Fruit Tart.
Ingredients
Full recipe quantities and details can be found in the recipe card at the bottom of the post.
Let’s talk about the ingredients you need for this cocktail!
Tequila
Triple Sec – -an orange liqueur common in margaritas. You can also use Grand Marnier or Cointreau.
Lime Juice
Blue Curacao
Ice
Apples – or another white fleshed fruit to make the stars, such as white peaches
Red Pop Rocks – using pop rocks for the rim gives a fun popping surprise! You could also use a red sugar if preferred. One pouch is enough for 4 glasses.
Making the Margarita
It only takes a couple minutes to make the margarita!
First prep your glasses by running a lime (or water) around the rim of each glass.
Put the red pop rocks in a small plate or shallow dish, and run the wet glass rim into the pop rocks for them to stick. Set aside.
(The pop rocks will give you an awesome popping action when you drink from the glass!)
Slice apples (or other white fruits like a white peach) into slices about 1/4 inch thick. I like to slice vertically up to the core, and then the other side, to get rounds without the core in the middle.
Use a small star cookie cutter to cut out star shapes.
You can keep the stars from oxidizing and browning by putting them in a small bowl of water with a splash of citrus, completely submerged.
In a blender, combine the ice, tequila, triple sec, lime juice, and blue curacao.
Then blend on high until it is not chunky, but do not over blend as it will start to liquify and melt. Just stop when it looks well blended.
Pour into glasses, garnish with stars, and you are ready to go!
Since the margarita is frozen, it will melt fast, which also means it is difficult to make in advance.
You could choose to serve it up on the rocks (over ice) instead of frozen, if desired, to make it easy and make a large batch.
To make a rocks version of the cocktail, simply mix the liquid ingredients and pour directly over the ice.
FAQs
