Full quantities and recipe details can be found in the recipe card at the bottom of this post.

Pineapple Juice – fresh definitely tastes best but requires time and effort to make. So canned, frozen concentrate, or jug juice works just great!

Tequila – no need to use anything fancy as the juice will overpower some of the flavor

Triple Sec – an orange flavored liqueur commonly used in margaritas. Cointreau would work as well.

Fresh Lime Juice

Coarse Salt – for salt rims, if desired. You could also use sugar! Coarse salt is best to get that chunky salt texture like you see in restaurants.

FAQs

What is the secret ingredient in margaritas?

A hint of orange is key to a great margarita! We accomplish this by using triple sec, an orange liqueur, but you can also use a splash of orange juice.

Why do you put triple sec in margaritas?

Triple sec is used in margaritas to bring a slightly sweet citrus note of orange that balances out the other flavors of the cocktail.

Is Grand Marnier or triple sec better for a Margarita?

Grand Marnier and Cointreau can both be swapped for triple sec if desired. They are more expensive, but also a stronger alcohol content. All are orange flavored.
